A Linux Newbie thanks you Jim H.

I'm new to Linux, about 1 week, but from what I've seen, heard and read (just finished Linus' autobiography "Just For Fun" btw - he's a funny guy!), it's what I've been looking for ever since I first got my grubby little hands on a PC. I found out about this site via a NG (comp.os.linux), and it's great that there are so many people out there like yourselves willing to help out us newbies. Linux feels like such a community-driven OS, which in turn makes me feel like part of a very large family. Having spent a good few years in Microsoft hell, and (I'm ashamed to say) believing the propaganda spewed from their marketing demons, I thought that to go down the Linux path was going to be a technically impossible, frustrating and suicidal task ???. How wrong! ;D It finally occured to me that OS's, like life, can be as easy or complicated as you want - and with a helping hand like getlinuxonline to hold, my relationship with Microsoft is, to say the very least, shafted.
Well done, guys. You've got one more regular visitor.
Great! Glad to have you. Unfortunately a lot of MicroscopicSofty users feel the same way as you did. I was a loyal user of MS until Windows 3.1 came around and it went down hill from there and once 98 came out I was doing everything I could to sever my relationship. I know that the transition can be rough, but trust me, if anything is worth it, Linux is. You'll be amazed at the community and the OS itself. All of us are here to help you, and in return you'll learn some knowledge along the way that we didn't know and you'll share that with us. It is a great concept that only the GPL/GNU can provide. I am very happy to be a part of it, and I know you will be to! We are glad to have you aboard and feel free to flood us with questions!I know you'll have them!

Thanks Aragorn.
Pleased to meet you. Like I said, I'm only a week into Linux. I've installed Mandrake 8.0 (Newbie Friendly), and love the intuitive feel of the GUI's, and doing what most newbie's do with an OS---check out the cool features. But, in your opinion, and those of other GLO members, where should I start? Would you suggest I play around with Linux until things fall into place?
What were your first experiences with Linux?
Hello there fellow newbie.Glad to have ya here!GLO is small but growing.Folks here know their stuff so do not hesitate to ask a question as they have helped me out many times.Welcome aboard the Open Source bandwagon!

I am also new to Linux, i found that installing mandrake 8.1 was/is the best thing that ever happend to my comp.
Now i would like congrdulate mandrake on making such a simple and easy to use installer.
