    ok kernel is:
    2.4.7-10

since sound was not listed when i ran /sbin/lsmod

    i did
    modprobe sound

then in the list it says:
    sound 59660 0 (unused)

also i cannot plug in analog to my speakers, there is only a digital adapter in my sub.

    dook,

    Try this:
    rmmod soundcore
    rmmod emu10k1

    insmod soundcore
    insmod sound
    insmod emu10k1

Check to see if you sound card plays music after that.

In what order are you trying to remove them? If you are trying to remove a module that is being used by another module you will get that error.
