    OMP Ideas

Well as per the suggestion of JimH....I want to ask you guys what kind of OMP's do you need/want. This will give me and a few others here more of an idea of what kind they need to write. OMP's are a huge help for newbies as well as a help to the site itself, so please, brainstorm and give us all your ideas! List a 100 if ya like!

    Re: OMP Ideas

Well Aragon already knows of my ideas, but anyone else is welcome to do them as well (in the true spirit of linux )

As a newbie,i was intending to document my entire travels through linux, from installation, to configuration, games, getting work done, updating etc. I'd release it as an OMP and let other people add to it

If anyone else is interested in woking on this with me, drop me an email

    dvanced" tutorial for power users

    Adding new Software
Compiling, installing software from source code?

    Upgrading components
Same as above? Or Upgrading in what way? Upgrading anything specific?

*un*installing something that's been compiled from source code might be a decent idea too.

The only way I know how to uninstall something when you make from source is if the programmer included a make uninstall file.

A very helpful newbie file for software installation may include (for RedHat Users anyway) installation of RPMs, where to find dependencies, how to install dependencies, how to install multiple dependencies simultaneously, and how to reinstall programs after the dependencies have been solved.

That would also be helpful in Mandrake.

Good idea. Dependency probelms can be very confusing for newbies.
