ATI and hard locks in OpengGL

Well, I decided to try getting steam installed and up and rocking. No dice.
I decided to go after a nice GL screensaver. No dice.

The PC hard locks every time.

What is the proper way to install the ATI proprietary drivers? The module refuses to load when I build using the installer. And with using Livna's RPMs, the kernel module loads, seems to work in glgears and fglrx-gears (piss poor framerates on both though).
Am I missing something? I do realize that I am restricted to 24 bit modes only for 3d acceleration -- fine.

    Thanks!

Re:ATI and hard locks in OpengGL

The fix is this xorg.conf line:
    Code:
    Option "BlockSignalsOnLock" "off"
    that did the trick!

    Later!
