    sound editing?

I've got a low-quality wav recording of the conversations between group of people - it has a lot of noises from the surroundings. Is there any way to make voices more hearable by decreasing the noise using some software?
If there is a way then please let me know.
I'm also interested if there is a software like this for windoze as well.
    Thanks.
