I think it's great, I just wish they'd release OS X for sale by itself for the x86, I'd really like to try it without paying the hefty price of a Mac.
What do you all think about Apple going with the x86 chipset?
Will it put a dent into Linux momentum?
How do you feel about it?

I guess doing that would step on MS toes and I really don't think Apple would do it. I believe Apple & MS have some kind of deal as long as Apple caters to the niche market it has.
I don't think they will use x86 chips; rather they will have Intel build a chip specifically for the Macs.

it will be x86, Jobs demoed OS X running on a standard Dell - it might be a specially designed x86 chip, but it will be x86

Then what is the point in Apple manufacturing hardware? If OS X can run on commodity PC hardware, I would think they would be eager to expand their user base by selling an OS X PC edition. It could be big.

The all important well tested, well made, well designed Mac experience... Mac has always had good hardware and good software, a combination that works well for users.

Yes, I think it will be a specially designed x86 chip for Mac hardware. Every should stay the same except for the chip.
