    How can I make a batch file run in the background? Not minimized, but not seen at all except in the task list.

    Re:Scripts

    Run it with & afterwards

    ie, ./script &

    And you can direct all output away from yourself like so:

    ./script &> /dev/null &

    Note that you'll have to exit the terminal with "exit". I find that my script dies if I click the close button in the WM.

    EDIT: Just re-read the post. Are you talking about a graphical app here that you don't want to be seen?

    [/quote]Place it as a service, to be started at boot time.
    It will place any output in the system log (under applications) and you will only see it as a running process in your task list.

    Re:Scripts

    start -> settings -> controlpanel -> administration -> services
    Or
    start -> run
    type in: "%SystemRoot%\system32\services.msc /s"
    press ok

    (assuming it's windows 2003 server or windows XP)
