Fonts look awful

I've just got an LCD monitor, and the fonts on it look absolutely crap. I've tried different kinds, and different methods but no matter what I do, they come out looking bad.
Can someone recommend some good fonts for me? I'm running Dropline on slack 10.1

Fonts should look gorgeous on an LCD monitor. Try going System->Preferences->Font and playing around with font rendering.

remember to use subpixel hinting on TFT displays, it makes a world of difference.

Thanks guys, with a little fiddling in the settings, then restarting the X server, my fonts are now purdy. Switching to the DVI in as well made a world of difference.
I dont do anything on this monitor now, just look at words, its so purdy.
