GeForce 6600GT goodness

Yeah, so I ordered a new video card (GeForce 6600GT) last week and it finally came. All I can say is wow. My old card was a GeForce 2 MX, yeah, a bit slow compared to the new one.

I installed everyone game I had and played them at the highest resolution possible and this card didn't miss a beat. It was almost like I got a whole bunch of new games this card breathed so much new life into my compute gaming.

i have to agree jro i upgraded from a 5200 FX to a ultra/plus, 6660 gt and the thing is fast im playing half life 2 without a hitch, what brand did you get bfg, evga, xfx, etc.?

the thing is if the midrange 6600 is so fast, how much faster can the 6800 ultra be

The install was a snap. Just dropped it into the AGP slot and away I went. Then, just for good measure, I reinstalled the newest nVidia driver.

I got the MSI card, found it for $210 on pricegrabber. I have been saving for a little bit and I wanted to buy as fast a card as I could afford, and the best would have been an ATI 9800 Pro, but I really don't like AIT's near non-existent Linux support so I went with the nVidia card. I agree, that with as fast as the 660 0 is, I wonder how much of a difference the 6800 would be. I am thinking that at the frame rates we are getting now the difference would almost be indiscernible.

even better would be sli, i got an evga card, myself and am very pleased, and i have to say the install was a snap also, just drop in put in a power cord and turn on and your set, when i saw fast the card i was like, how fast would two of these be, or two 6800s in sli format.

Unfortunately I had to go with the AGP card, since my mobo didn't have PCI-Express. No SLI for me! How rotten too, slower overall performance, and a more expensive card!

Mate of mine has a an SLI configuration with two GeForce FX 6800 Ultras. Holy shit! He runs his games (Doom3, Half-Life 2) at 1600x1400x32bpp and it is silky smooth. I read a review comparing the ATI Radeon X850, and it was getting somewhere in the vicinity of 50fps less the and SLI GeForce 6800 Ultra

Does Linux recognise SLI configurations? I want to get a computer that allows me to have SLI, but I don't know if it is worth it if I am going to have problems with Linux.
