run /sbin/ipconfig
[/quote]Windows on your mind lately? :P . The command is /sbin/ifconfig . IF you are logged in as root, then the command is simply ifconfig .
Or may be you should de-install the DHCP package and re-install it. You can use GUI based tools such as anaconda in Fedora. It shounded like DHCP wasn't set up properly ( at least all those permissions part ) because you seems unable to override host files and stuff.
Another thought, find out your DNS server address from your ISP (I usually do a query for your ISP; mine being comcast ) and use the DNS server they use which I found it quiet reliableinstead of what they offer to their customers. And put that info to /etc/resolv.conf .
HTH ...

Hi, as far as I know, Anaconda is the Fedora Core Installer. Hence, Vida Linux, etc. use Anaconda as a front end to Other installs such as Gentoo.

Hi All,
Now it is working fine. I am not getting that error during boot up or now my terminal is like this
[ajai@localhost ~]$
I havent done anything for it.
All I can remeber was,
I started the computer without the ethernet cable connected. (I havent done that for any purpose but accidently). Then for boot up it took too much time. it get stuck in one stage for some time( i dont remeber the stage), may be about five minute. But it started up with out any other problem. It was the first time that I noted that, the terminal is not showing that funny ip. then when I just plug in the ethernet cable, I was able to connect to internet without any problem.
Any way after that I restarted many times and every thing is going smoothly.
another thing I did was, I had installed all the updates for fc3.
Thaks a lot guys.
;D ;D ;D ;D
