hello,
what happens when you do a /etc/init.d/hpiod restart ?
also what drivers are loaded?
FC3 (which I love, so far) on Compaq Armada 1700 (which I tolerate)
HP PSC750 (which I used to love)
Have downloaded and installed what I believe to be the latest hplip
Have an icon for HP Device Manager under Accessories and everything. When I attempt to start it nothing happens. Sane does not detect a scanner.
Problem is, I have come to believe, the service hpiod will not start. It's listed as "on" in the Services box-thingy, but as stopped.
Here's what the boot log says (and I get the same message however I try to start hplip or hpiod)
[tt]Jan 15 21:37:45 localhost hpiod: execvp: No such file or directory

Jan 15 21:37:48 localhost hpssd.py:

I've googled hpiod and come up a little short. When I try to reinstall FC3 as an update, the only thing it installs is Mozilla. Any suggestions?

hi.
what happens when you do a /etc/init.d/hpiod restart ?as for drivers . . . here's where I sound stupid. I did an apropos drivers, which pointed me to lpinfo. So I tried lpinfo, lpinfo -m, lpinfo -v, also with /bin and /sbin and /etc but get a bash message command not found. If you would kindly help me figure out what drivers I have, then I'll gladly share that info. Should have noted at the start that you've got a super-newbie on your hands here! Also, I'm approaching hour 12 at the keyboard -- I'll probably be dreaming linux tonight.Code:[root@localhost betsey]# /etc/init.d/hpiod restart bash: /etc/init.d/hpiod: No such file or directory
hello
i don't have one so i am doing a bit of guessing, anywho
try /etc/init.d/hplip restart - else try restarting what ever is in /etc/init.d/ and starts with hp.
to see what drivers are loaded try /sbin/lsmod - i think there whould be usb-printing and possibly hpusbscsi listed.

only other thing in the directory is hpoj, which when restarted seems to do nothing blatant.Code:[root@localhost betsey]# /etc/init.d/hplip restart Stopping hpiod: [FAILED] Stopping hpssd: [FAILED] Starting hpiod: execvp: No such file or directory [FAILED] Starting hpssd: hpssd [ERROR]: Unable to connect to hpiod.hpssd HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 0.8.4) hpssd Services and Status Daemon ver. 3.0 hpssd Copyright (c) 2003-4 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, LP hpssd This software comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY. hpssd This is free software, and you are welcome to distribute it hpssd under certain conditions. What I don't know is where hpiod came from - did it install with FC3, or with hplip? There is a folder in the hplip-0.8.4 folder called io that has a folder called hpiod with lots of program looking stuff in it.
I'm at a loss.
