If you mean on the right, those are gdesklets. http://gdesklets.gnomedesktop.org These are pretty cool.

Agreed. The ones you're seeing there on the right are desklets called "LTCandy".

Gdesklets always used to flicker on me so I haven't used them in a while...do they still do that?
