I got it working!! All I needed to do was install mesa3 libs. :Figures it would have been something easy.
According to my XFree86 log DRI is enabled.
However typing glxinfo I get:Code:(II) RADEON(0): Acceleration enabled (II) RADEON(0): Using hardware cursor (scanline 3080) (II) RADEON(0): Largest offscreen area available: 1024 x 2299 (II) RADEON(0): X context handle = 0x00000001 (II) RADEON(0): [drm] installed DRM signal handler (II) RADEON(0): [DRI] installation complete (II) RADEON(0): [drm] Added 32 65536 byte vertex/indirect buffers (II) RADEON(0): [drm] Mapped 32 vertex/indirect buffers (II) RADEON(0): Direct rendering enabled
I'm not sure if there's supposed to be more radeon files or not but I don't have a radeon_dri.o or radeon_drm.o file anywhere. I installed X using apt, and am wondering if I should have installed with the sh script.Code:name of display: :0.0 @@Created GLX Context.. display: :0 screen: 0 direct rendering: No server glx vendor string: SGI server glx version string: 1.2 server glx extensions: GLX_EXT_visual_info, GLX_EXT_visual_rating, GLX_EXT_import_context client glx vendor string: Brian Paul client glx version string: 1.2 Mesa 3.0 client glx extensions: GLX_utah_direct_0_2, GLX_no_accel

How dumb do you feel now ?I got it working!! All I needed to do was install mesa3 libs. :Figures it would have been something easy.
The DRI guide mentions the need for OpenGL over and over again.
Not very since I did have to install Mesa seperatly.You DO NOT need to install Mesa separately. The parts of Mesa needed for hardware acceleration are already in the XFree86/DRI project
Yeah, but you still need some sort of OpenGL environment... Mesa provides that for you.... but hell the important thing is that now you have X accelerated - Congrats ASCI

How goes the plans for world domination ?

Thanks for your helpful hint! The "Direct rendering enabled" vs. "direct rendering: no" was very confusing. I searched all over the web before finding your post. Installing the xlibmesa-gl package Debian/unstable fixed all my 3d acceleration woes. (-;
Now, glxgears outputs a much better 1800fps (improved from 300fps previously).
