log in as root, open up a shell, click on something that looks like this if you're using kde
    and then type in:
    tail -f /var/log/messages
    [/quote]

Ok. This is what I got. I don't see anything that jumps out at me as out of the ordinary...

    Code:
    [root@localhost john]# tail -f /var/log/messages

Also, I should add that I am doing all of this posting in Linux. Can't do anything else on the internet though. That is what is so F***ing irritating. It makes no sense to me whatsoever..... Thanks for all your help though everyone. As always, I very much appreciate it.

Re:Internet, e-mail not working... except on LJr.

I might suggest that you obtain a copy of Knoppix, either from a friend, work, etc. Put it in your computer and boot it up (it's essentially a cd-based bootable distro for those who either want to test Linux without installing Linux or for those who want to run Linux on a computer that they are not allowed to install Linux on). When it finishes booting up and drops you to a gui, try to connect to any website other than ljr. If it lets you do that, go into /etc/resolve.conf and copy down whatever is in it. Then reboot your computer, take the Knoppix cd out, boot into Redhat, add the lines that you copied down into your /etc/resolve.conf file and you should be good to go. This method worked for me when I had some ISP issues several years ago. HTH.

    Cheers

I downloaeded, burned and ran Knoppix. (AWESOME by the way. How cool...) Anyway, the internet worked like a gem. Here is what is in the /etc/resolve.conf file:

    Code:
    ; generated by /sbin/dhclient-script
    search domain.actdsltmp
    nameserver 192.168.0.1
    nameserver 205.171.3.65
I will copy this exact information into the /etc/resolv.conf in my Red Hat. Wish me luck.

    SUCCESS!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D

I don't know what was different. In fact, the code in the above post was already in the /etc/resolv.conf file, but I rewrote it nonetheless. Anyway, I saved it, opened up firefox and BAM, it loaded the page IMMEDIATELY!

Thanks all for your help! Now, if anyone has any ideas on the Limewire post I posted a few days ago... hint hint...

Seriously, thanks to all who offered suggestions/advice. Very helpful and I appreciate all of your help.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
