Startx problems

When i log as user in the xfce desktop in fedora core the window doesn't appear for a long time.the following message appears
"host name host name look up failure
x autho: time out in locking author file /home/muran/.xauthority["
please help

try to make sure the following line is in your '/etc/hosts' file

127.0.0.1localhost.localdomainlocalhost

Also, try removing everything in your /tmp folder

su -c rm -rf /tmp
