are some I can think of at the moment.
Perhaps you can narrow down what you mean by useful. Most of the chans listed so far are specialized chans for example #slackware et al. You should probably stick with chans such as #linuxhelp, #c++, #python, #perl etc.... which are broad enough to include anything related to that subject.
Just my two cents. By the way if you need some QA let me/us know.
Anyhow I don't hang out at any irc channel that would have a broad appeal so I'll spare you my list.
Useful meaning useful to anyone new to Linux. Im going to include a IRC tutorial in a chapter regarding getting help on the internet. Chans such as C++, Python and Perl will be beyond the scope of audiences I am trying to speak to...if this goes well, I would include that in a followup edition
