KDE on Windows? A Platonic dialogue

Should KDE should port its applications to Windows? A debate has flared up in parts of the KDE community, filling inboxes and blogs with arguments long and short. The question is really whether the KDE community should encourage this, since it is already happening. In the tradition of dialectic, I present the key arguments for and against this venture in style of a Platonic dialogue.

Persuade me, Glaucon, if you will of this need for KDE to port its applications to Microsoft Windows.

Well, Socrates, let me preface my argument by stating that our aim here should be to entice and switch people to free software. Therefore I argue that porting KDE applications to Windows will mean more people will eventually switch to GNU/Linux or another kind of system.

On that aim, my good friend, we can agree, but on the means we cannot.

As long as I don't have to help its okay. (humor)

I have gotten lots of people to use OO and Moz/Firefox and
then they start talking about Linux and the various distros.

I for one am against it, all it will do is take focus away from the original goal of the KDE project.

i have 2 semi-conflicting reactions, one is my reaction as someone who does not want to see Windows Supported for anything, as long as M$ keeps up it's horrible tactics.

But my other is purely the coder coming out in me, a program should support as many enviornments as possible, and it only helps the community not hurts.

Right. Besides if I can get amy to use KDE on windows, I'm one step closer to getting her to use KDE on Linux... ?

if KDE apps are running on windows, and windows shits its pants like it tends to do on a regular basis, it could damage the KDE apps reputation. And any time spent on porting the apps/libs/whatever else the deem applicable is time that they dont spend improving it on linux. Just seems like a bad idea.
