I think that, for what you want, your best bet would be SuSE.
I'd say Slackware (which is my choice of distro), but Slackware does not have many GUI tools, so that might not be to your liking.
Hey all, I have been away from Linux for awhile (last version I ran is RH9) anyway I will soon have my Linux box back for my use and was wondering what distro is the hot one now?
I am not the inner working techno geek that it takes to build a linux box from bits and pieces so I am looking for something that comes with most things pre-assembled (gnome or KDE) etc.
Thanks,
Rastar

I too would suggest Slackware 10 (that's my favorite) but if you enjoy KDE, I'd say SuSE 9.1 Personal or SuSE 9.1 Pro ... Also try Fedora Core 2.. It's a Red Hat supported distro. http://fedora.redhat.com. 'tis a great one!
If you prefer KDE, by far the best for usability is Linspire, but Fedora Core 1 is the best free, GNOME based distro by far. SuSE is too easily broken, and many RPMs out there have issues since SuSE changes alot of default paths. Mandrake 10 was okay, but still had a few fatal issues for me (updater still sucks, slow, things are broken when installed fresh).
