    64-bit Distros

For those that have 64-bit CPUs: what Linux distro(s) have you tried and what do you recommend? Also, it would be great if you can give a comparision between 32-bit distros and 64-bit distros (that is if you have tried both 32-bit and 64-bit distro(s) with the 64-bit CPU).

N.B. By 64-bit distros I mean those that have compiled every app and not just the kernel for the 64-bit platform.

    Re:64-bit Distros

My sister is using Gentoo, though 64bit linux still seems to have some rough edges. Things like plugins for your browser, using win32 codecs in mplayers, and assorted programs that simply won't work in 64bit. Nice for the novelty I guess, but I would just run 32 bit since I don't want all that fuss.

By 64 bit I assume you mean AMD64 not Sparc or nay of the other earlier real 64 bit setups.

Fedora, Debian, Gentoo and SuSE all have support - personally I heard good things about Fedora's support, where as Debian requires some.. tuning.

Yes, when I said 64-bit, I was referring to the AMD64/x86_64 platform. Thank you for bringing that up, since I should have specified it in the prior post.
