    external monitors with laptops

    Hello
Out of curiosity I just plugged an external monitor into my laptop that runs archlinux. The external monitor just show actualy what my laptop screen showed. Is there anyway to set it up so it appears I have one long monitor. What I mean is, so if I open a window it opens in screen 1 only and then I can drag it to screen two if I like. What I'm after is being able to read say a man file in one screen and use program in the other.
    Regard Darren
