The Let's get 100000 thread

I'm wondering if we should keep doing this. I mean think about it. A new visitor arrives to the site and all he sees is that useless post padding instead of Linux help that he came here for. Instant turn off. It shows up on the front page, and that's all you see under recent posts. Shouldn't we stop it?

the only other active threads are about politics.. should we stop those as well.

and why aren't you answering my mails?

Mod the script so it doesn't show playground or off topic threads. Clearly the Let's get thread is a popular one, it's good for the community to have a thread they like, we have to care about our current community before worrying about expanding it.

I think if we're going to get rid of it we need to get rid of the playground and the Off-topic forum. There are days when all we have on the front page is political discussions, and those do get very heated. Isn't there a way you can just remove the playground and off-topic from the front page?

I agree. I see no harm in the existence of the forums nor the topics. But to have them on the front page as recent posts, just seems irrelavent and off topic. When a newcomer visits, that person expects linux, or at the worst OSS OS's as the general topic breadth, not "How I couldn't get laid last night" or "Check out my new car."
