Should we move the IRC Channel?

Allright, this is a topic to see if we should stay on Freenode or move somewhere else. It will run for a week, and close next Monday at 9:00 PM.

Please vote only once. I'd be ideal if you posted after voting, not saying what you voted for, but just that you voted (that way, we can match the ammount of votes.)

Freenode
Benefits:
1.Channel owned by an LJR member
2.Has a lot of traffic, which might increase traffic to the channel, an maybe to the website.
3.Composed of a network of servers.
4.IPV6
5.Network stability
Detriments:
1.Changes to the website irc client, and changes in adress for users.
2.IPV6
3.Power issues (who has Ops..)

LEHNet
Benefits:
1.Channel owned by an LJR member
2.SSL Support
Detriments:
1.Smaller network
2.Power problems (Who has ops...)

OFTC
Benefits:
1.Already stablished
2.Known by some people
Detriments
1.Smaller audience.

May i point out some errors in your lehnet descrition? (sorry if we described it wrong earlier)

My modified version:
LEHNet
Benefits:
1.Channel owned by an LJR member
2.Has a small amount of traffic, having #ljr on there would help it out.
3. LEHNet people could work closely with ljr people, because of their similar interests
4. Part-owned by an LJR member
5. SSL support
Detriments:
1.Smaller network
2.Power problems (Who has ops...)
3. no IPv6 support

Okay the parent post is just so wrong:

OFTC certainly also has power issues.

OFTC doesn't have SSL support (the verdict is still out on FreeNode's SSL support, so please don't rate that against it yet)

We are currently officially on OFTC not FreeNode.

I fail to see how LEHnet can have anywhere near the amount of related(Open Source users) traffic as the two big estabilised networks (OFTC and FreeNode), being a small network. Comparing it to FreeNode's vast deployment at any rate is probably not favorable.

The web IRC client will have to be changed case we move off OFTC, not just for a move to FreeNode, but also for LEHnet, this is probably just a 5 sec hack job though so it's really a none issue.

Another issue is that the channel is currently named #ljr since that's our nickname, but #linuxjunior is better suited since that's our actual name, and it will make the channel and it's purpose easier to figure out from a channel list.

That being said I vote FreeNode.

How is that possibly a plus for _US_ rather than LEHnet, I really don't care about the network - it's there to serve me, I'm not there to serve it.

ok, the benifit for us would be the low amount of traffic, having our voices heard.. imean its hard not to hear myself

i was just stating it would benifit LEHNet on top of that.. rather then just benifiting us.

How about ruling out LEHnet all together? It's really no different from OFTC.

Moving from one small network, to another. Really, what's the point? Moving from a small network to a big network. More users, open source based. As for the whole Lilo thing, GET OVER IT!!! It's done, it's over. Just keep your money in your wallet.

The one thing that was good for a lot of people that came in our channel when on Open Projects, was that we were open to newcomers unlike some of the others. From that, we aquired quite a few memebers that way.
