DVD Software

Any tips on what DVD software I should try? I just bought a DVD+-RW drive, and of course only has Nero for Windows. I am looking at doing backups of videos and creating my own. I am in process of downloading dvdauthor, gtk frontend, and qt frontend (seems more mature than the gtk one).

For playing DVDs I found mplayer to do the best job.

I am having difficulty in getting K3b to duplicate DVDs appropriately. Any tips? Or alternate tools (even ones using wine are welcome ;D ). Thanks

Windows has a tool called DVD Shrink, that unfortunately doesnt operate on linux for me under wine. I use that to rip, decode, deregion crypt, reauthor, and finally burn. Anything like that on linux ?
