Thread: 128 RAM Total -- Free == 98 ?

    128 RAM Total -- Free == 98 ?

    OK. My new slack system has 128 RAM. but when i do:

    cat /proc/meminfo

    it shows me:

    Total -- 128
    Used -- 30
    Free -- 98

    How exactly does space get occupied on my Ram? Is there a way for me to remove all the stuff of whatever is on there and make my Ram at least 120-115 again ?

    Thanks

    Why would you want to do that. What is probably in memory is X, and any other applications you're running.

    Try "top"...that'll give you an idea of what's present.

    RAM is not space where you save stuff it's where running processes are kept, swap is like RAM, except it's HDD space for when you run out of RAM. Try the command "free" for checking RAM and swap space.
