    cga and XD2

Well, I installed Ximian Desktop 2 on my SuSE 9 laptop. I will now eat crow about the bad things I have said about Gnome. Wow- Gnome has come a long way since I last used it. I am forced to agree with LC and eveyone else as far as usablity is concerned- Gnome is way better than KDE in that respect and I have serious doubts that I will be using KDE anymore.

I could advise you to try XD-unstable on a spare machine, it's basically 2.6 with all the neat Ximian patches applied, it's very slick - and their GNOME and OOo integration work is just superb.

either way, welcome to the GNOME side of things.

I to used to be a KDE troll, but after I saw GNOME2 and The GIMP demo'ed on Linux Forum 2003 I ran home and installed it - I have been on it ever since. I used to use GNOME 1.2/1.4 though, but GNOME2 is just SO different, it's like night and day thanks to the usability study.

XD is just the icing on the top, vanila GNOME is generally very nice as well, and that's what I use on FreeBSD for my desktop.

Yes you certainly were...and you will never fully comprehend the satisfaction I got when you finally came about. It's actually pretty similar to what I'm feeling with cga _finally_ on our side.

One by one you will all be subverted

Welcome to the dark side, cga.
Strange things happened to me with vanilla-gnome 2.6, but it's still better than kde

Well, I am finding that XD2 is just wonderful and is likely to be the desktop I end up putting on all the machines here in the office. The Ximian folks have just done a bang-up job. I do wish that Novell would build a distro with a basic SuSE core, YaST and XD2. Make it a one CD thing as easy to install as Xandros and we'd have the Linux Desktop OS.
