Hi all. Thats right, I'm not dead, just been away for a bit. Recently I've been thinking about switching to Verizon DSL. It is cheaper and about the same speed as my cable connection. I'd be getting 1.5/384 for about $30 a month. My question is does anyone have any experience with Verizon DSL? Is DSL worth the switch from cable? How about running my own webserver like I do with cable? etc...

Do they block port 80 or any other ports there?
Acutally, I'm not sure what they block inbound as I don't run any services out of my house.
I have SBC and the only blocking I get is them not allowing youto send mail from your SMTP server to sbcglobal.net (they have their dynamic IPs BLed)
I have Verizon and I don't have any issues. And I'm real far from the central office (otherwise, I'd probably have another service. Actually, I did, but when Rhythms went belly up, I had to switch to Verizon.) Anyway, I don't think they block much/anything. I'll have to check port 80. I know they don't block 25, and some of the other ports you would suspect.
You can have a neighbor or a friend who uses the service you want to switch do the port scan from DSLreports.com . It's easier and accessable via web interface, http://www.dslreports.com/scan . Or else, have them nmap you.
