    compile stuck in loop?

yeah, dumbest sounding question ive ever posted..oh well...
anyways, i have a 266 or 300 mhz box and its runnin gentoo..anyways, i told it to emerge something, and it had a bunch of dependencies to get, so it got qt, which took possibly almost a day, but then its been workin on PyQt for the past day, and PyQt is only just over 700k...wierd that itd be taking that long...it looks like its compiling something called hugeqt0.cpp....its been clicking like mad for over 16 hours now....any idea what that is and if it really should be taking this long? im afraid the poor old thing's gonna melt itself..

    Re:compile stuck in loop?

    Well...it's hugeqt

Is it spending 16 hours compiling one single file? Because that's not right. I know it takes a good 24 hours to emerge kde, and probably the same amount of time to emerge openoffice, but I've never heard of that kind of time spent on 1 file. If that's the case then something's probably wrong.

Well in that frame it's only at 21%, meaning it's doing something. If it were in a loop it would take up 99 - 100% pretty damn consistently.

    Re:compile stuck in loop?

Give it another day or maybe even a day and a half. On a 1 GHz Athlon it takes a full day to compile kde...maybe QT is a part of that. It makes sense that yours would take 3 days to compile kde. If it starts to get really ridiculous then just stop it.

If you have one or more computers that are faster than this, you might want to try DistCC.
