Hi,

I thought this issue might be of general interest since it is vital to so many linux applications which use techniques that could be patented by a software company in future.

WIPO from 2004-05-10 to 2004-05-14 Geneva Patent Policy Session

The World Intellectual Property Organisation's Standing Committee on Patents will conduct a meeting to negotiate about the Substantive Patent Law Treaty. The aim of this treaty is to establish uniform and binding criteria under which patents must be granted. There is great pressure to from the US and elsewhere to mandate unlimited patentability. Many NGOs are present at the session, mostly representing interests of patentees and patent lawyers.
see here for details http://swpat.ffii.org/events/2004/wipo05/
and what one can do about it: http://swpat.ffii.org/group/todo/index.en.html

There has allready been an event earlier this year with netstrikes and demos (http://swpat.ffii.org/gruppe/demo/) but it is still not over.
