    redhat's up2date

    does mandrake or any other distro have an equivelant to that?

    Some app to get the latest of all programs installed on your machine?

    apt
    It works on all Debian-based distros, but has been ported to RedHat and SuSE and perhaps some other rpm-based distros.

    Download the gui tool Synaptic once you get apt up and running. It will show you all upgradable packages on your system. However, as far as a tray icon goes like Red Hat's, I think that's one-of-a-kind. RedHat's also looks nicer (but frequently doesn't work)

    I read about something call apt-applet or something like that on the debian mailing lists a few days ago. similar thing.
