    Problem with installing RPMs kernels is that you get whatever options the person who compiled the kernel put in. Do you have any particular hardware that might not have been picked up? (RAID, special IDE controller, SCSI hard disk, etc.)

    Also, look at default kernels for your distro, like rpm kernels they're so freaking huge.
