I would say check your network config in FreeBSD. That sounds like localhost isnt setup right.

This post was for OpenBSD but I guess it would also apply for FBSD.

Or there is no entry for localhost at all in resolv.conf.
Ok, I reinstalled 5.3 and checked /etc/hosts and put in correct info, but I just think sendmail just taking a long time to start. I don't need it anyway, so will disable it. I messed up the last install. :
Well I'm going to take things slow and easy. I'm enjoying it so far. I have Xfce4 and I must say, it is a very nice, lightweight DE.
Mozilla still takes awhile to appear but I can live with it. And the 'startx' command still don't work for some reason but I can live without it also.

capybara, you're welcome, but if it wasn't for the other guys here, kernel killer and schotty, along with others I wouldn't have gotten that far myself.
At the moment though I'm not using it.

ok, finally, im now online posting this with FreBSD and firefox 1.5
the problems were:
1."fatal trap 12" caused by using usb mouse and keyboard
2. ethernet card configured wrong, dhcp turned off.
3. network configured wrong, it wants to use as nameserver my
local gateway, not the dns server of the isp.
