FreeBSD Installing Stuff.

This post was for OpenBSD but I guess it would also apply for FBSD.

I would say check your network config in FreeBSD. That sounds like localhost isnt setup right.

Or there is no entry for localhost at all in resolv.conf.

Ok, I reinstalled 5.3 and checked /etc/hosts and put in correct info, but I just think sendmail just taking a long time to start. I don't need it anyway, so will disable it. I messed up the last install. :

Well I'm going to take things slow and easy. I'm enjoying it so far. I have Xfce4 and I must say, it is a very nice, lightweight DE.

Mozilla still takes awhile to appear but I can live with it. And the 'startx' command still don't work for some reason but I can live without it also.

I reinstalled Freebsd 5.3 but may have a bad ISO. I tried installing everything but after awhile it went into a loop trying to install Perl and some dependencies.

So then I installed from a FTP site using the Everything choice. I'm still having a few problems but is posting this using Freebsd.

Each time I tried out FBSD I got that far, on dialup too! Unless the latest few releases have been iffy, its just slowing down and reading the prompts and then knowing how the standard (not the distro-specific) way to configure X, bash, and package management.

capybara, you're welcome, but if it wasn't for the other guys here, kernel killer and schotty, along with others I wouldn't have gotten that far myself.

At the moment though I'm not using it.

Is there a 64bit version out, anybody know?

ok, finally, im now online posting this with FreBSD and firefox 1.5
the problems were:

1."fatal trap 12" caused by using usb mouse and keyboard
2. ethernet card configured wrong, dhcp turned off.
3. network configured wrong, it wants to use as nameserver my
local gateway, not the dns server of the isp.
