DOesnt let me do ./configure

I have tried installing a few things that came with a DVD.

Some were RPM and some were tar.gz

I was able to unpack all

The problem occures when i try to do a

./configure

or

./configure --enable-gnome

It says something about:

BASH: /bin/sh Not permitted

I will get the exact error and put it on the forum tommorrow

This problem is so fustrrating as i cannot install anything, this problem has occured every time i try and install an RPM or a tar.gz

Some examples are when tryung to install WINE, XINE, ROX ENVIRONMENT etc...

Any help would be much apreciated

You do not decompress RPM Packages. You just install them. On the Plain English Tutorials section, we have a good tutorial on using them.

As for tat.gz files, those you do decompress. Afterwards, look for the INSTALL or README file on it. It should give you detailed instructions.

Ok heres the problem:

I can unpack the tar.gz files then when i do a ./CONFIUGURE like it sais to do then it gives this error message.

Bash: ./configure: /bin/sh: Bad Interpreter: Permisson Denied
This occurs when in root aswell.

ALso on a side note, i have just installed the fluxbox rpm. How do i make it so that i ca nchoowse to go into fluxbox instead of gnome or kde

hello,
for redhat edit the file ~/.Xclients-default and put exec fluxbox (assumes fluxbox is in your path).

for the bad interpetor - what happens when you type sh ?

Is sh installed? If so, is it installed under /bin/, you may want to run `whereis sh' just to be certain. Either install sh or link it to /bin/sh.

I asume it is installed. In the users area its a choice of login shell.

I ckecked and \bin\sh isa choice of login shell. DOes thius mean that it is installed.

Where do i find ~/.Xclients-default. Is it just hidden in \

Also was wondering if there is an appolication, or somne command that can be typed in theterminal, that will show all packages that are currently on my system.

i would not assume that because it is a choice it is installed. what happens when you type sh at the shell?

try putting sh before ./configure

Ok, doing a sh ./configure worked, it starts to do some stuff. it then stops at some point and says something about howq it cannot use C compiled programs.

Here is what it says:
