Mobo recommendation for school labs

Hey Gang,

We've been buying pcs with MSI mobos, and have had some terrible luck with them dying. It's been traced to a run of bad capacitors. Our vender is now looking to build PCs with mobo's by Chaintech.

Do any of you know anything about them?

We've got a bid from another source who's offering to build with asus, which he said has been much more reliable than the MSI boards he used to use.

I don't have first hand experience with Chaintech, but they look kinda cheap to me. I've just been avoiding them. Asus might be a better choice.
I'm very happy with Abit. Avoid FIC boards.

I have had very good experience with Asus. I'd recommend them as very reliable.

Chaintech are not good. They are very cheap and nasty. Gigabyte make fairly good, cheap boards.

Stick with the major players :

Intel, MSI, Asus, Tyan, Gigabte, Abit.

I am sure there are a few reliable brands that I missed, but all in all it generally boils down to who charges what and for what features. You could probably get an Intel for dirt cheap providing you use Intel CPUs and buy in enough bulk.

Not a motherboard, but I recently had a chaintech gf2 ti 64mb ddr die on me.

i love my Tyan board and any the shop i go to uses nothing by Tyan when tehy sell to schools and the city.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I checked for responses to this post right after y'all posted them, but was out of town, and figured I'd reply when I got back to work. You know how it goes...

Which shops do you purchase from? We'd be interested in shopping for a new vendor. Some of our purchases are upwards of a 100 computers, though some are only 25 or so.

Intels that we use at my job are insanely simple to do updates via a network boot or a cdrom. That should be nice for ya. I am talking BIOS, BMC, FRU, SCSI, and ATA RAID. Some are using WhizPro, others are using Ali, Phoneix and Award. All pretty reliable. Note that I am working at a PC assembling plant that does ALOT (keyword is A FRIGGIN LOT) of bio med work. Chances are the XRAY or CAT scan unit is run off of one of our units (for US, Germany, Japan, China).

Out of curiosity, which board did youy settle on?

I have had good luck with Biostar boards, reliable, not much for OCing, a good budget board.
