    Evolution Killah

    I have quite the quandry.

Evolution is my favorite email client on any platform...granted it only works in Linux. More specifically, only Redhat, Mandrake and Suse are supported Linux distributions. The beasts over at linuxpackages.net have a port for Slackware, but it's more or less a do or die install.

    There lies the problem.

Slackware 9.1 is perhaps the best Linux distro Ive used since SuSe 7.3 [those who remember my foaming at the mouth routine when I first installed 7.3 can smile now]. But I need a email client that can follow me.....

Those who respond with KMAIL will be replaced with a very small shell script. >

    Suggestions? Opinions?

I don't have a suggested app for you (not a fan of KMail, either). Have you tried the suggestions here for setting up Evo 1.4 and the dependencies?

    Cheers

It works, but it just "works"

For instance, when I close the application, rogue processes related to Evolution remain present. This is clearly not the way to go. I could deal with it, but I dont feel I have to.

I understand what you mean. Yeah, I guess I'd want to change if the program was leaving stray processes around (sounds like they took a page from IE).

Have you tried any of the Moz related clients? They might work. Or maybe one of these.

    Cheers

Another vote for mozilla-thunderbird here. I used to be a long time evolution user and now I switched to tb completely. I just love it. The one feature that I haven't seen in any other mail client is the support for multiple identities for a single account. That is you have one inbox and as many email addresses as you like associated with it. I don't know if this is something everybody can appreciate but for me it's perfect. Also imap support seems more mature in tb compared to evolution.

    Sylpheed?

I like it alot. Its lightweight, does email only, and that VERY well. HAndles multi inboxes and sorts very well. Has excellent BSD and *NIX ports, and an okay win32 port. At worst try it.
