red hat 9 on abit nf7s ?

I'd like to get a distro working on my newest pc.

I currently have mandrake 9.1 on an older pc (duron 800) dual booting with win98se . i cant install mandrake on my new pc because there's something with LG drives i read about a while ago. now i recently downloaded the new red hat and i was thinking about getting it on a dual boot setup with the current win2kpro installation.
is this hardware all supported in red hat 9 ?

The Mandrake/LG issue is fixed with a firmware upgrade http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/lgerrata.php3
http://www.mandrakesoft.com/ has a hardware compatibility database.

I think all your hardware is supported. You need to get most drivers from the NVidia website.

Well, hardware support is quite univeral, due to the fact any driver is really a kernel module. They are for the most part all included with the kernel. As trickster said, the only one that needs to be downloaded is your nVIDIA driver. I would say go Fedora Core if you really want Red Hat. But RH9 is an awesome release nonetheless.

Thanks for the info. Im going to see how one installs a driver in linux (havent done that before) and try to get me a red hat partition set up on my machine.

I have an Abit NF7-S and I'm running Slackware 9.1 - everything works fine. I'll tell you what though, Slack comes with the 2.4.22 kernel, which is fine, but I just compiled a clean 2.6.5 off of kernel.org and whooaaaaaa! man is this sweet! the system is now blazingly fast, and the internet is like lighthing. NVIDIA nforce2 support is now included in the kernel. You don't need the NVIDIA drivers from their site for the chipset.

Build the Alsa stuff for sound (not OSS) and choose the intel8x0 sound chip. Choose NVIDIA nforce support for agpart, IDE and ethernet support. This stuff rocks.

The only thing I downloaded from NVIDIA was the graphics driver (I have a Geforce 4 TI 4400) the 1.0-5336 driver. It has an automatic installer, making it a no-brainer and works like a charm.
