Thread: HP USB Scanner Problems

    HP USB Scanner Problems

If anyone out there has experience getting a HP ScanJet 3400c in Linux I would appreciate hearing about it. I can't get it to run. I know there was project in the works for this one but the link I found was dead and I am not having any success. I am running Fedora Core. HP claims on hp-linux.org that they support most of their scanner in linux, however I can't find anything.

    Appreciate any help out there.

The SANE page doesn't even has it listed, so it is probably unsupported. However, this link shows someone saying it did work.

OK, so does anyone have a scanner that works well under linux? If so, what brand, and is it something I can find in a store today?

I'm not looking to spend much........

    Thanks

I bought a Canon N650U a couple of years ago, and it works fine.

Did you try to get your 3400c to work as explained in the link I posted?

Not yet. It seems a bit above my Linux skill level at this point. I might give it a try tonight.......

I tried the fix on that link you posted but to no avail. That sucks. I don't want to buy a new scanner... Anyone of your hackers out there want to build a driver for my scanner?

    E-mail it to.... :

That is kind of way too hard to do...

Have you tried, from a console, doing a

    su -c "modprobe scanner"

and then see if you can use the scanning tool to scan?

    Re:HP USB Scanner Problems

This Mandrake RPM says it supports your scanner:

    http://rpmfind.rediris.es/rpm2html/m...5mdk.i586.html

It seems it uses the "niash" back-end

    http://www.sane-project.org/lists/sa...l.html#S-NIASH

although the project is at is earliest stages of develpment and the functionality is minimal.
