Have you searched google?
Hi everyone,
Before i start if one of the mods wants to split up my topic they can because i'm going to deal with all hardware and X windows.
I'm downloading FreeBSD 5.2 with a 56k modem. I need as much info as i can get.
I have a scroll mouse and the name of it is Kensiko
I have a Compaq keyboard but don't have enough info on it.
Compaq MV540 color monitor
PCTEL Platinum V.90 modem
Intel(r) Integrated Audio Card
PCI Video Card
I would say that's about it
Could some give me info on how to setup my following hardware in FreeBSD 5.2 and help me configure X Windows in a GUI?? Thanx everyone.
Have you searched google?
No because even if some told me how to set everything up i will still run into problems. I would need someone to help me when this is done downloading.
why dont you try it yourself FIRST???
Then post the problems you ran into and what steps you took to solve the problem.
search for a bsd install how to or something like it and DO IT yourself first, dont just come here and ask people to tell you how to do it.....
Ok man.. I do it myself after it's done downloading. I don't even know the commands. I wouldn't even know what to configure when i run the command "startx" or X11 or something else like that but yeah i can give it a shot.
Hi Derek,
Please read the documentation from the manufacturer's website. It has answers to all your questions.
If, after reading the documentation, you run into problems, feel free to post.

We didn't know what to do the first time either. Read the documentation, yes documenation can be hard to read but it's a good skill to have (understanding it). The forums are to help other users solve problems, not to have someone else solve your own problems.
Your posts should ask for information, not ask for someone to do it for you.
Good luck, let us know how it goes.
Here. This is all the documentation you need.
FreeBSD Handbook
If you can't find your answers there, you aren't looking hard enough. The PCTEL you will most likely have to Google for.
I personally don't think you should even try this distro since you still miss the concepts of Linux alone. If you can't get your system running good in Linux, you probably aren't going to have much luck in FreeBSD, or any BSD for that matter.
This is what i found for my PCTEL modem:

How's that?? I don't think there is to much there on how to configure it or what drivers i need for my modem..
