JRO, Questions for you; What about your health-care and your retirement?
Working conditions? Vacation?
A lot of the people from abroad that are critical of the usOFa are from countries that beat the usOFa in everyone of the above areas...

Ehh, health care, teh company takes care of 75%, retirement is my responsibility no matching. Working conditions are average, just a sterile cube farm really. Vacation, umm, I think 3 weeks a year. I always thought the US was had the best work benefits out all the modern nations, but I could be completely wrong since I really don't have a clue as to working conditions in other countries.

JRO, In most Latin American countries you receive 13 to 15 months pay per year. I don't remember actual vacation time, not a lot comes to mind.

Again in LatAm, to fire someone you have to pay a certain number of weeks of salary per year worked. That can be a huge amount of $$$ for the worker.

In the 3 Central American countries I have lived in and what I know from friends in most of the other ones, if you work you are given free medical care (not always the very best, but....)

In El Salvador the work week is 5 1/2 days but you receive 7 days pay for that week. In El Salavador a burger flipper at MacDonalds earns enough to support a family (usually the Latin families are much larger then in the usOFa)

Most European countries have 5 weeks vacation per year for everybody. And a shorter workweek then in america.

Germany and Japan both have higher $$$ per hour on most jobs than in the usOFa

Lunches in Italy are real long, very very long.

Now, this isn't about quanity of life but about quality. If the boss wants you to work more than 40 hours, you should get premium pay. If some one works a 40 hour week they deserve enough to support a family. When the janitor makes more than the teachers at a school we must be doing something wrong?

Again, my problem is not having answers and there may not be answers because the problems have gotten so large. I do know that its up to you and me because the governments and corporations are not looking out for the "little guy"

Everytime I have been involved in a we instead of I situation the I still ended up with all the benifits the we(s) ended up with the shaft.
