    html abiword problem.

    Anybody explain what went wrong here? Think I copied thing as plain text (Microsoft) from the internet and then I probably put in the <P>s and <TITLE>s with vim.
    The file has the extension .html.
    Lynx wrenders it as:

    (p1 of 70)

    <P>GENESIS: Vaccine Facts.htm </P>

    <P>Vaccine Facts </P>

    <title>A collection of what is known about the routine
    vaccines</title>

    <P></P>

    <P>Dr Edward Jenner</P>

    <P>1749-1803</P>

    <P></P>

    <P>Variolae Vaccinae - the birth of the fraud.</P>

    <P>In May 1796, Edward Jenner, acting upon 'a superstition among the
    dairy maids of Gloucestershire that a person who had suffered from
    cowpox would never have smallpox,' inoculated one James Phillips with
    lymph from a cowpox vesicle on the hand of a dairy maid: in June he
    inoculated the boy with smallpox. </P>
    etc...

    Switching lynx to native mode gives:

    Re:html abiword problem.

    Dunno about Abiword HTML or any other html editor for that matter, but by putting some tags manually onto your work with vi, I came up with the following. Nothing too pretty or fancy and possibly not at all to your taste, but this is very basic and unpretty html....

    <html>
    <title>Vaccine Facts</title>
    <head>
    <H1>
    GENESIS: Vaccine Facts.htm<br>
    Page 1 of 80
    </H1>
    </head>
    <body>

    <P><big><u>Vaccine Facts</u></big></P>

    <H1>A collection of what is known about the routine
    vaccine
    </H1><br>

    <P align=center><big>Dr Edward Jenner<br>
    1749-1803</big></P>

    <P></P>

    <P>Variolae Vaccinae - the birth of the fraud.</P>

    <blockquote>
    In May 1796, Edward Jenner, acting upon 'a superstition among the
    dairy maids of Gloucestershire that a person who had suffered from
    cowpox would never have smallpox,' inoculated one James Phillips with
    lymph from a cowpox vesicle on the hand of a dairy maid: in June he
    inoculated the boy with smallpox.
    </blockquote>
    </body>
    </html>
    Adjust to your taste.

    May be what you needed was
    Code:
    <html>
    <body>

    Insert your text here.

    </body>
    </html>
    tags.

    Hm.. looks like Abiword tends to vomit a lot of junk tags into HTML. You can try using HTML Tidy to fix it, but generally word processors do a bad job of transfering to HTML.

    See http://www.w3.org/People/Raggett/tidy for info on Tidy.

    Great thanks all.

    Perhaps I threw a bit of a wobbly. Think put text with html tags into abiword and then saved it as an html document; so abiword stuck in a load of tags and de-tagised the existing tags.

    Sorry am not used to html wordprocessors. :
