CD drive detection with cdrecord or cdrdao

I read an interesting article at Linux.com
    ... about cd recording.
I have a cd drive as slave on secondary ide channel and a cd burner as master on the same channel. They are mapped on my Mdk 9.2 as /dev/hdd and /dev/hdc.
I can mount them, but I'm not able to extract audio tracks...
I run cdrecord --scanbus and cdrdao scanbus with no avail.
    Any clue?

I'd say that, if he's able to mount the drives, then this isn't the issue. I do know that permissions can be difficult to manage when running CDRecord and other CD burning apps. Have you tried running the software as root?

What error messages are you getting?

Though the information on this page may be a little dated....

Re: CD drive detection with cdrecord or cdrdao

Well, in this first attempt I'm running the programs as root. I don't get an error message: I simply don't get any device!
Otherwise, I can mount either the CD reader either the CD burner.
I'm able to play audio tracks only by means of Kcd.
Now, I'll read docs (thanks) and try . . .
    bye!

    It worked! Thanks a lot!
I should have found the clues in the documentation by myself...
Thanks for the link to tldp.

    Bye!
