Squirrel Mail Error--mailbox name not allowed

    Hi Linux Geeks,

I had a problem on my mail server running Squirrel 1.4.1 on my RH9 Server.

The following error occured after I tried to send mail inside my Squirrel on our Web Server. As follows

Requested action not taken: mailbox name not allowed
    Server replied: 553 5.3.0 <jay@domain.com>... User unknown

I already made an alias on my Sendmail /etc/mail/alias file for the jay@domain.com as follows:

    jay: jaymail

    where:
jay is the server login account.
jaymail is the valid email account.

    but still having the problem.
How can I get through with this error? Any idea will be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks

This is not a squirellmail problem, but rather a sendmail problem. After you edited /etc/aliases, did you run the newaliases command to rebuild the aliases db?

Yes, I did run "newaliases" command after editing /etc/aliases. But, still got the headache?!

I consider changing my local account user to use the same account as to its email. When i logon to my squirrel webmail server, just like the old account "jaymail" the new account "jay" can logon successfully without a problem. However, whenever I try sending mail the same problem persist.

    Any recommendations?

    Pls help

Actually in looking at this, I now see your problem.

You need to set it up like this --> The user Jay needs to be a user on your box, and needs to appear in /etc/passwd.

Your /etc/aliases must take this syntax -->

    [mail alias]: [local user]

    thus

    jaymail: jay

In the above example, jaymail is not a vaild email account, but rather direct's sendmail to deliver mail sent to jaymail to jay's inbox. Jay should be able to recieve mail at jay@yourdomain.whatever as well as jaymail@yourdomain.whatever.

You should not be able to log in as as the user jaymail, since there is no such user on the box.

Let me know if this helps.
