How to leave some packages from upgrading ...

I have some problem with apt-get dist-upgrading of some packages namely courier-MTA.

I'm just gonna leave it like that until my current Courier version enter TESTING branch of Debian.

Now because of that, I can't upgrade any of the packages ( 167 in all ). How do I leave specific packages from upgrading and let the rest do?

I'm running Debian Testing and using apt-get to dist-upgrade it.

    TIA.

    Hi Jim,

That thread was a good one. It sounds promissing. Thanks.

    --------

Now, I've got another problem. I'm using Testing branch of Debian and the apt.conf was no where to be found . . There is only apt.conf.d directory in the /etc/apt/ and inside that dir, it has only 70debconf file. Does anybody knows where the heck that apt.conf got moved?

    TIA

I have the same thing with my unstable version.

    Mine is locate as:
    /usr/share/doc/apt/examples/apt.conf

That's the only one I see.

Yeah, I saw that one too. But as it says, it's just a sample configuration file but not the actual file that apt use. :-\

Okay, I'm revisiting this issue again.

Anybody have working apt.conf file that I can take a look for sample and modify it for my system?

If you prefer to mail, I will give you my addy via IM.

    TIA

Well, finally, I bite the bullet.

Modified /var/lib/dpkg/status file to (permanently) remove all entries that I want to remove, manually remove all config files and entries and viola, all is good.

It's a bitch to do it but got it done. :'(
