    Quick Windows Security Question

this is probably stupid but if windows is closed source, how do people write exploits for it? is it just seeing how some part of windows reacts to a program or something and then building off that vulnerability?

Probably. Theres a few (or maybe just one) good lists on www.insecure.org that talk about making vulnerabilities. :-)

Some good knowledge of C and ASM can be helpful.

Well, you can always disassemble a binary, and using various technics you can spot possible overflows fx.

Programs like the crashme one can also be helpful in testing - if you just keep hammering random data at something if it doesn't check it's input properly it will act "funny".
